That's my parents and that was the house I was born in! We added a garage when I was seven and put dormers in the attic to put bedrooms on the second floor. It sold brand new for about 8k and came with a 30 year 3% VA loan.

It always kills me when people tell me it isn't possible for single income families anymore....they sit there telling me this in their $400k, 3000 square foot house with granite counters in the kitchen, heated tile floors, skylights, dishwasher, washer/dryer, large screen TV, three car garage with two cars- one a 26k SUV, every piece of lawn and garden equipment made.....etc etc. Gimme a break. Meanwhile, I have more than one single income family friend who does just fine, just has a life style that isn't as extravagant. They deprive their children of cable TV and every Nintendo game ever made.
