Buy and Hold theory.. I know know one is crazy about markets that are down about 10% in one session. But feel bad for those that insist on still holding longs through these markets. When is the time to sell? NTAP down from 120 to 40.. now? Well there was nothing wrong with holding for as long as the stocks were profitable but not taking a profit with the market so overinflated in March was financial suicide, no matter how good the market was BEFORE March 2000.

Shorts were the way to go today and my list of shorts did well. Of course I was stopped out of long plays but lost only part of accrued profit from the last few trading sessions. I'll get in some of the 'dirt cheap' tech stocks, but I will hold for as long as they are profitable. Any profit of "20%" or more and I'm out and waiting for another plunge. What investors don't understand is that when a stock plunges so much it will take an invariably long time to get back to January/February highs. Each time they try to retrace highs, investors cutting a bit of their losses plus traders 'cashing in' on short term rallies will kill the stocks by selling.

I'm doing my share by trying to start a new portfolio but I can't resist the short term rallies and invariably after I sell, the stock drops dramatically once again. Its a traders market and 'loading up' on bargains that will only get even cheaper is not the way to fly. You can of course get 'bargains' but understand that if they do rally it will be shortlived and be ready with trailing stops and/or stops with every buy. You don't need to be brainwashed by the "All is well with the world" bunch.

This reminds me of a B-movie I think it was Volcano or Earthquake.. Anyhow this dude was trying to calm a full auditorium of citizens not to panic when the 'quakes' were already beginning. Walls were falling, windows were shattering, but he was saying "stay calm folks, we have everything under control" Of course all hell broke loose and the erruption was not halted by the town mayor and the city counsel. Was there any doubt?
