Dear Chuzzlewit: Well, I admit, being a CPA I may be biased, but IMHO detecting FRAUD (which involves Collusion such as CD had) is a far cry from reviewing accounting methods and practices. The former is often only caught if you are lucky (remember auditing is a testing process not a 100% review) whereas large accounting treatments are always carefully reviewed, each and every one and the methods footnoted in the statements. So long as the CPA firm is one of the Big 6 or whatever they are called now (was Big 8 for me) any of them have very knowledgeable SEC departments who review the decisions of the local audit partners.
