OT: Regarding the textbooks, I teach out of the 6/7 geography book by Glencoe and before even using it for a year, I contacted my administration concerned that we'd paid big money for inferior quality texts. I had dropped the teacher's edition off my desk, and it came completely loose from the seam. Kids would turn pages, and they'd rip. We had paid over $43+ for books that had pages of magazine quality. Well, after my school administration did nothing, I contacted the county office. In essence I was silenced by them sending down the Glencoe rep and her stand was that if any of the books didn't hold up this year, she'd replace them. What a hoot!! How many teachers in the county would say nothing and get stuck with those books? Well, all of them it seemed, for I was told I was the only one who complained. Now the books are 3-4 years old and are complete junk, and I've heard many teachers complain now. But still, no one in authority listens and I wouldn't be surprised if they buy from Glencoe again. To me, that's a sad use of taxpayers money.
Sorry for the OT, but felt compelled to "vent" about the books again.:)
