Having been born and raised in border states, I can attest to knowing several people who have been burned on Mexican bonds, bank accounts, CDs, etc. Right now, I must admit I am more optimistic about them than the average US citizen. I see little signs of a growing middle class down there, and a relaxing of the somewhat corrupt one-party political control down there. Someday they will doing as well as our neighbors to the north. Every time I've been up to Canada to visit in-laws, I am amazed at how badly their economy is doing. You would think that at least a little bit of the US's good times would leak across that long, porous border. P.S. A Canadian joke: What do you call a Canadian citizen who lives in Vancouver and wants to visit his family in Ottawa by car during the winter? Answer: Fill in for yourself: _____________. -- Carl
