MVSI's Subsidiary Socrates Computer Systems Opens New Information Technology Computer Center
VIENNA, Va., Oct. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- MVSI, Inc. (Nasdaq:MVSI) announced today that its subsidiary, Socrates Computer Systems (''Socrates''), has opened the new Socrates Technology Center (the ''Center'') a 35,000 square foot facility in the Washington, DC area. The Center is designed to address the information technology (IT) needs of corporate and government clients, as well as individual IT professionals. The Center is comprised of a computer manufacturing and integration facility producing customized computer systems; a professional training center providing instruction on the latest computer programs and technologies (such as Windows NT, Novell, Cisco); a forum for major computer technology companies to provide comprehensive demonstrations of their newest products and technologies in a dedicated product demonstration hall and seminar facility (Cisco Systems, Inc. conducted the opening day's seminar); and an Internet, Intranet, local area network (''LAN'') and wide area network (''WAN'') installation, maintenance and consulting service center.
As part of its effort to become a recognized provider of IT solutions for its clients, Socrates is opening similar technology oriented facilities in the Virginia area. As previously announced, Socrates has entered into an arrangement with Newport News Shipbuilding, Inc. (NYSE:NNS) for a computer service center dedicated solely to the support of NNS and its 18,000 employees. Socrates is also opening a facility in Virginia Beach to solicit and support the computer hardware, software, integration and training requirements of the U.S. Navy and others. Socrates plans to evaluate other metropolitan areas nationwide as potential sites for future Socrates IT centers.
Socrates is also currently working with e-Net, Inc. (Nasdaq:ETEL), a leader in developing data telephony products for networked organizations. e-Net's Telecom 2000(TM) product is a patented technology that delivers full voice quality-of-service over data networks at a low per-station price. Advanced access features such as call transfer, call hold, call waiting, and multi-mode call forwarding are performed across the enterprise data network. Users can take advantage of a simple Graphical User Interface on their PC, or use their most familiar system interface -- the telephone. Telecom 2000(TM) brings Voice over IP to the desktop either integrated with an existing PBX or standing alone to provide PBX functionality without the cost of a separate phone infrastructure -- true Data Telephony. Socrates intends to aggressively market this cost-saving technology to its Fortune 500 customers and government agencies. MVSI has a perpetual OEM license to use e-Net's Telecom 200O(TM) Software. Both companies will continue to explore cooperation through technology transfers of their respective high technology products and services. MVSI and its management are 14% stockholders in e-Net.
MVSI manufactures and integrates machine vision systems for robotics, semiconductor and other industries, integrates and markets brand name proprietary and generic high-end computer system products and support services, provides technology training and performs computer software engineering and development for systems applications, including implementing solutions for the Year 2000 conversion.
