Obama presses House to act fast on tax cuts
05:34 PM

President Obama discusses the Senate tax bill vote on Monday.

By J. Scott Applewhite, AP
President Obama, in his second appearance in the White House press briefing room in as many work days, just came out to hail a Senate vote paving the way for passage of the tax-cut deal he struck with Republicans earlier this month.

Obama said the deal, which extends the Bush-era tax cuts for everyone for at least two years, "does some very good things for the American economy and the American people."

The Senate vote, he said, proves that "both parties can, in fact, work together" in a bipartisan way.
