News summary from Dow Jones: <<< February 16, 1999 Dow Jones Newswires Newbridge Networks Gets ATM Service Order In Brazil Dow Jones Newswires KANATA, Ont. -- Newbridge Networks Corp. (NN) said it has received an order for its Siemens/Newbridge MainStreetXpress 36170 Multiservice Switch to provide asynchronous transfer mode services in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janiero. The value of the contract wasn't disclosed. In a news release, the company said it received the contract from Empresa Brasileira de Telecomunicacoes SA, or Embratel, Brazil's long-distance carrier. The company said the multi-access platform will enable Embratel to consolidate existing digital overlay networks, including private line and frame relay infrastructures, onto a single, unified ATM platform centrally managed by the MainStreetXpress 46020 Network Manager. It said the MainStreetXpress 36170 multiservice ATM network will enable the rapid introduction of new services while reducing capital and operational costs by consolidating multiple networks and services over a single, high-capacity core network.
