Sounds like a desert dirt. Fine stuff. I often wondered how they managed to get the Pt that they said they produced. One source I had thot of was buying concentrates. It is a well known fact that metal in concentrate is much cheaper than in refined form. It is possible to buy, or acquire Pt in oxide form, as spent Pt from cracking plants in Texas and Louisiana, and refine it by a relatively cheap ammonia process. Some employees of the refineries may be persuaded to exploit loss control in order to ensure a steady supply. Spent aircraft sparkplugs are another possible source. The sands of Az, whilst perhaps carrying the odd assay in the diorite, are more dubious as being productive. They had tried to sell me that an IF was the host rock of a Pt deposit. Frankly I have my doubts, but I guess anything is possible. If that stuff is a host to PGMs I will take up Pt in my diet as a staple.

Maxam claimed the same sort of thing. It is known that selenium and arsenic confound assays and that Pt needs special collectors, i.e. iron, nickel or Pt, but not much is explained that would afford a comfort level to the above room temperature IQ. Selenium is high in the desert sands. However I never accepted the story the companies were coming out with. They need independent chain of custody third party vefification very badly, before I will suck into it.
