No doubt that coal affects us. Mankind has been using it for centuries. I grew up in Wisconsin near St. Paul in the 40's. Back then all we had was coal for heating the house. Everybody used coal including local industries. I vividly remember seeing the black spots in the snow since there were no scrubbers on chimneys like today to remove most of the impurities. We converted to natural gas sometime in the 70's.

My Mother still lives in that same house (alone). She is 101 & 1/2. She uses a cane to get around. I sometimes wonder how much more healthy she would be today if she had not been exposed to coal soot for the first 64 years of her life.
