Last update: 2/21/2008 6:04:35 PM DOW JONES NEWSWIRES Chesapeake Energy Corp. (CHK), the largest independent U.S. natural gas producer, reported late Thursday fourth-quarter net income of $303 million, falling from $471 million a year ago.
After paying preferred stock dividends and including losses on the conversion of preferred stock, per-share earnings fell to 33 cents from 96 cents.
Excluding one-time items, the company earned $466 million, or 93 cents a share, from ongoing operations.
Revenue for the three months ended Dec. 31 rose 12% to $2.09 billion.
Analysts surveyed by FactSet, who typically focus on ongoing operations, predicted the company would earn 82 cents a share on $1.96 billion in revenue. Shares of Oklahoma City, Okla.-based Chesapeake fell 1.5% to close at $44.18 ahead of the report.
