chapq,

The 3G problems that Europe is going through needs to be put in its proper context. Yes over the short-term the Q probably loses out on some near-term royalties (imo no where near the $10B you suggest) but perhaps asking ourselves some questions might help: 1)Would China be getting ready to launch the Q's cdma in a big way if wcdma was getting ready to be installed in Europe?, 2) If the euros didn't have financial difficulties, would they actually be rolling out 3G cdma anytime soon or would they just continue to milk the same cow that has been so good to them in the past?, 3)Would the pendulum start to be swinging back in favor of cdma1x and 2000 in Korea?, 4)Would Verizon & Nextel have recently announced a future cdma2000 migration path?, 5)Would India be as aggressive pursuing a build out of WiLL cdma?, 6)Would the recent GSM auctions in South America have been such a dismal failure?, 7)How has it affected other recent wireless transmission technology selections and how will influence those to come ,8)How might it influence the selection of future wireless standards? 9)Would the Software community be real exciited about BREW? I could think of some more but I'll leave it there for now Also,. I'm not suggesting that all of the above can be answered in a way that is directly attributable to the Euro's 3G problems but it does cause food for thought.

Yes the clock is ticking but continued enhancements to existing technology will keep the clock ticking for a long time to come. Being considered the pre-eminent expert in cdma based technologies and having control of future standards will help to ensure it.

Re: P.L.'s comments - I think what he really meant is: Go ahead spend all your precious resources on trying to get a round peg to fit in a square hole (gprs) while cdma2000 continues to forge ahead and extend it's ever widening lead and attendant time-to market advantages over wcdma.

Regards,
Mike
