I think for Schmidt to oust Young--or even to suggest, say, that he retire--would be a tactical error at this point. Young no doubt has his supporters, and he owns a hell of a lot of stock, which he could of course dump at any time. However, the fact that Schmidt was brought in as Chairman and CEO, rather than as CEO only, suggests that the board is not averse to letting him be the chief decision-maker.

Don't think there'll be any real problem persuading Marengi to leave. Judging from his latest statement he's resentful about something and having trouble concealing the fact. My guess is that he'll be gone within weeks, if not days, of Schmidt's arrival, and knows it, and feels he's been ill-treated.
