3Com Corp. has emerged as the market leader in sales of 56-kilobit-per-second modems, according to a report from PC Data magazine. It said modems based on 3Com's x2 technology made up 69.2 percent of 56K modem sales, while Rockwell's K56flex technology brought in only 36.2 percent. In September, 56K modems accounted for 46 percent of total modem sales, beating sales of the older-generation 33.6K modems for the first time. People, I beleive the above is just one example of why the recent slide in COMS is way overdone. There have been numerous highly visible deals and strategic alliances announced recently. Don't fall for the FUD! The analogy of Cisco/3Com as Microsoft/Adobe is a laugh. Just watch and see. (Remember the big run up from 26?) -LK
