How does one even know what is HONEST these days. It takes a lot of research and then there is some web site that investigates the authenticity and accuracy of some information that comes out and advises. IMO, much of the truth today is given to us by omission. The politicians and the media do it on a daily basis. In fact, I believe it is their mantra. Only part of the info is provided to us and it is slanted to gain our support. Many people today are not good at "reasoning" out an issue. They get blinded by opinion or hatred and any sensible discourse ends at that point.

Take for example this latest debacle with GW.. and the spying. If I read law professors from reputed Universities whom I would probably respect if I knew more about them.. and they say he broke the law. Then Gonzales comes on and he is the ATTORNEY GENERAL for heavens sake and he says he has not.

Now, because I don't TRUST Mr. Bush, I tend to go with the law professor.. in my head and emotionally. But, am I right.
Unlike many posters, you are showing intellectual honesty by asking yourself if your thinking on the subject is logical. This is a healthy approach to decision making.

This is the conundrum. AND every day there is more and more dishonesty in our society... take the cloning incident.. Take the information on a new drug. All baloney.

Whom is one to believe.

Now,I can trace my own way of thinking back and I know why I believe what I do and it's mostly from life experience...
and that has been long.. thank heavens. But, to go as I have from being the WASP from a small Pennsylvania town to where I am today in my politics, religious thinking and way of living is a 90 degree turn.

For me, the time worn principle of Caveat Emptor applies in politics as well as business.
