When I lived in Austin as a young man, I was a poor hippie. I'd go down to the visitors gallery at the Texas lege because it was free, I lived nearby and it was pretty funny at times. A lot of the rural counties in Texas then were represented by some really stupid redneck assholes. They may still be. Nere do well sons of the local car dealers who's dads had bought their seat, etc. It was a time when the Texas 'chicken king' could pass out checks right on the floor to buy votes to situate a new smelly processing plant. The (D)'s ran things then.
