It has nothing to do with flaunting, and everything to do with establishing credentials. Do you think it is better to have government administrators that have no knowledge about administration? Do you think it's better to have politicians that know nothing about politics or social sciences? Do you think that ignorance is more important than knowledge? When you go to the dentist don't you want to know that he went to dental school? When you go to the doctor don't you want to know that he is a certified physician? Do you think designing social systems is different? Would you prefer to have a dentist that never went to school, or a doctor? I spent half my life educating myself, designing and implementing social systems. There is a science to that and the more one knows about it the better job they will do. Life is about learning things, not got instincts. "Education is a progressive discovery of our own ignorance."
