Karunakaran chargesheeted in oil import case-Hope the bozo gets his ass fried.

Thiruvananthapuram: Former Kerala Chief Minister K Karunakaran and seven others were chargesheeted in the sensational palm oil import case in the vigilance court by the vigilance and anti-corruption bureau today.

The chargesheet, filed before vigilance judge P K Balachandran, accused Karunakaran and others of criminal conspiracy causing a loss of Rs 2.32 crore to the state exchequer on account of import of 15,000 tonnes of palm oil from Malaysia at an enhanced price.

While filing the chargesheet, the bureau requested that the case be taken up only after receiving the sanction of the Governor, the Lok Sabha Speaker and the Central Government for prosecution.

In the light of the request, the court posted the case for January 21 next year.

Those accused along with Karunakaran in the chargesheet are the then Minister of Food and Civil Supplies T H Mustaffa, former chief secretary S Padmakumar, former additional chief secretary and chairman of the state civil supplies corporation Zachariah Mathew, Jiji Thomson, then managing director of the corporation, V Sasidharan and his son S Sivaraman of the power and energy limited, the Malayasia based company which was given the import order, and P J Thomas, then a member of the director board of the corporation.

The charges against them were framed under Section 19 of the Prevention of Corruption Act and Section 197 of the CrPC.

The vigilance team filed only photocopies of documents, saying the originals would be submitted after getting sanction of the Governor, the Lok Sabha Speaker and the Central Government.
