Robert,

Oops (based on my previous post).

Interesting articles from Lan Times that you found.

It looks like Dr. Eric is more serious about Joe M. than I thought (or hoped).

From the Q&A:

Eric Schmidt: I've had an opportunity to work with a truly world-class CEO [at Sun], Scott McNealy, for 14 years, and I'm sure some of that has gotten inside of me. And I have an opportunity now to work with [former Novell Chairman of the Board] John Young, one of the most accomplished CEOs in the entire world, and [Novell President] Joe Marengi, who has done a tremendous job on the operating side at Novell. In fact, I wouldn't have taken the job without John and Joe being there.

LT: How do you plan to work with Joe Marengi now that he will not be CEO?

Schmidt: Joe has done a tremendous job running the company, and he and I are close friends. We spent a lot of time together over the last year, and obviously even more recently, and frankly I wouldn't have taken the job without him being here. I need his skill set. So we've agreed we're going to sit down after I get started and have that discussion, and he seems to be comfortable with that. You should ask him, of course.

Well, if Joe M. does stay, hopefully he won't be in charge of marketing. Maybe he just needs someone to order him to be 'Joe the Hun', a nickname we haven't heard for about 6-7 months.

Mat
