I'm not too worried about this thread -- it will start moving when the stock starts going up. I'm not too worried about the stock either -- I think that SGI's product is top of the line, it is perfectly positioned for the growth in communications technology, and its recent earnings problems are the direct result of their product cycle and costs of absorbing Cray. I think their strategic decision to create a single platform with ultimate scalability is going to pay big dividends in the future. The only think sitting on the stock right now is this idea that the "Wintel" platform will squeeze SGI out of existance, the way it did with Apple. However, I think Windows95 sucks, pardon me. It is a miserable, unstable operating system and the PC market shows signs of saturating in any case. Once the curve cracks on Microsoft's earnings growth, there is going to be a big rush back to SGI. Any even if the earnings are mediocre -- where can the stock go. Probably to $17, which is not too bad a hit at this point. And all my informal sources ( R U M O R S ) suggest that SGI is delivering its machines now, and demand is high. So assuming the stock market survives the next few quarters, I would call this a four-plus buying opportunity.
