Just to underscore Seybold's acute insight, let's imagine that you are a 35 year-old analyst who bought a big house in Greewich or Short Hills in 1999, after a couple earlier moves in your career. You like your Club, the company you move with and the greater promises ahead. Life is good. Your specialty happens to be telecomms. You are on to QCOM's revolutionary course, and you discuss it with your boss over a few bubbles. He notes, after a pregnant pause, why QCOM is not in the firm's vision.
