Bittersweet news...

Would have been nice to have MSFT's boat line up beside AMD's to increase visibility of the Athy...but would also have interfered in Athy development...

In retrospect, AMD is focussed on the 800 plus MHz niche...Diversion of resources to a low margin 600 Athy may have been a drag on future Athy development progress. AMD can sell all the Athys it can currently produce.

The PWeeIII seems to be topped out around the 600 MHz level and perhaps INTC with all their fab space can confidently supply at this level, hopefully better than they've demonstrated at the 800 MHz level.

Summary:

1). Looks like AMD and Intel will be competing in different niches in the near term...AMD at 1000MHz and INTC at 600 MHZ.

2). This decision has zero impact on AMD earnings...In fact, it just may have put to rest a possible future major impediment to Athy development and profitability!

3). Interesting day shaping up...Looking forward to AMD's release with respect to the MSFT?Intel decision!
