Re: X box processor

We have been asking for a while what Intel would do with the surplus 600 MHz CUmines they are producing while trying to fill the saleable bins. Selling them to MSFT, even if at below cost, makes sense. AMD could not complete against Intel trying to clear their rapidly devaluing chip mountain.

What I think will be interesting is the credibility of a system in late 2001 with only a 600 MHz processor. Microsoft would be stupid to buy processors so far in advance and so I have to assume the Xbox will have a GHz processor by then. Will Intel then be prepared to sell Willy for use in a games console? What would that do for their market segmentation strategy?

One things for sure. A lot will change between now and 2H 2001!
