Well Don, It's the just before Eastor low volume days. Good time to fill yer Easter basket with stocks that are way undervalued. On Monday this week in the Register.
Infineon today announced the release of engineering samples of 1GB DDR SDRAM modules. The company also says it has demonstrated working 2GB DIMMS last month at the Intel Developer's Forum. And it's giving another showing to the 2GB beast, running on Intel's Plumas/Prestonia platform, at JEDEX this week in Santa Clara.

Now one problem with packing lots of CPU's in one chassis is having reasonable amount of memory per processor so that ones 4, 8, 16 .... CPU systems perform well. As this memory density increases it looks like SGI with the only sub 40 watt, hell sub 20 watt processor will be able to pack 8 or even 16 CPU in a 2u chassis. Now the current 300 series has an enormous cost performance lead over the competition. But 8 and 16 CPU in a 2U is just plane price disruptive.

All the competition will have to work very hard to pack 8 or 16 50 watt plus CPU's in a 4U. Itaniums are 120 watts LOL.

In equipment racks the unit of measure is a U and that's 1 3/4 inches. One could think of a medium PC tower case as a 3 to 3.5U on it's side.
