Nortel Networks to Add Fonix Multilingual TTS Capability To Industry-Leading OSCAR Platform

SALT LAKE CITY, Dec. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Fonix Corporation (OTC Bulletin Bulletin: FONX) FAAST Text-To-Speech (TTS) engine has been selected by Nortel Networks for use in its Open Signal Computing & Analysis Resource (OSCAR) platform. Fonix will provide Nortel Networks with the high-quality voice-processing engine for use in OSCAR Interactive Voice Response (IVR) components. FAAST presents an extensible and flexible voice integration framework that will allow Nortel Networks to integrate extremely robust TTS capabilities into OSCAR, using a simplified development process.

FAAST TTS is a leading voice solution for integration with OSCAR -- an advanced speech-processing platform developed by Nortel Networks for third party IVR deployment. The ability to provide TTS capabilities to the solution will enable OSCAR to interact with text-based input from virtually any source, including websites or email. The capabilities of Fonix TTS will greatly increase OSCAR's ability to interact in real time with digital telephone equipment, or any number of advanced speech processing products. The result is a device that is uniquely capable of supporting advanced Customer Relationship Management (CRM), IVR, voice portals, and other communications services.

"FAAST will allow us to provide our customers with TTS in multiple languages, and to offer a very robust product to consumers," said Ken Holl, product manager, advanced speech technology, Nortel Networks. "FAAST is a leading speech synthesis engine that will provide Nortel Networks with the flexibility to integrate a TTS engine that will support multiple languages, is scalable, and cost-effective for the consumer."

"The OSCAR platform is an optimal integration for our high-quality TTS," said Kurt W. Flygare, Fonix Vice President of Sales. "This relationship will bring Fonix TTS to Nortel Networks customers worldwide, further strengthening our lead in the TTS market. Nortel Networks enhancement of OSCAR has already received attention from the company's existing customers, and has also generated some new opportunities for voice users."
