I've been following the various word changes suggested and your "saboteurs" resonated. It conveys both the destructive orientation and the irregular military tactics. Or we could coin the word "subvergent." Then we could make it mean whatever we want. <g> Still don't understand why "insurgents" would make anyone foam at the mouth, though. It may not be the perfect word but it's a good-enough generic word, close enough given the choices available.
