I need to upgrade one of my computers, and it seems that we are in a transition period between the BX boards and the 820 chipset that is to come. It also seems that it will be quite some time, perhaps more than six months before the 820s and the Rambus memory chips will become 'reasonably' priced.

I have put together a list of items for a fast but reasonably priced computer that I want to put together now, and I would appreciate comments as to whether I am making the correct choices.

Case: Super Micro 760A or one of the new cases from colorcase. I have a computer now that is inside a 750A and I find that computer extremely noisy.

CPU: PIII 500. Seems to be the best balance between price and performance.

MB: Abit BE6. Supports ATA-66, and I have had good experience with a BX6-2.

Drive: IBM Deskstar 34GXP. ATA-66 compatible drive. Seems to be again the best balance between storage size, price and reliability, for a 7200 rpm drive. I have had good experience with the same drive in 13 Gb size.

Memory: Corsair CM654S128-BX2 which is a 100Mhz chip. I am considering CM654S128-133 which is 133 Mhz, but I really don't think that one gets any advantage of the extra speed with the existing MBs. Please correct me if I am wrong.

I will use an existing 16 Riva TNT video card, and an existing sound card. I will probably opt for some Monsoon speakers down the line.

The use for this machine is real time trading with software that calculates indicators in real time via DLLs. Quite CPU intensive. I am running this software on a Celeron 300A overclocked to 455 and I would like to see it run a little faster. Any and all comments are appreciated. Thanks.
