I cannot give answers to your questions right now but I do shares your concern.

Fact
From some Asian news paper, the present President had been in power for over 30 years. He is now being challenged by Megawata Sukarno, the daughter of the former President. She has the backing of the worker union.
The Chairman of the union was arrested and charged for mutiny after a riot causing 3 death, 26 hurted and US$42,500,000 of properties damage in the previous week. Some democratic politician included Megawata was summon to the trial as witness. All opposition politicians are not allow to leave the country although no names were mentioned.

Analysis:
I have been talking with an Indonesian Canadian this morning. He still have brothers and sisters in the country. He said that President Suharto, a former army colonel have the support of the army. He has full control and nothing is going to happen. If he want to step down, he will call an election when it is in his favour. The Vice-President will be an army general. Suharto will resign in an years time and the Vice-president will succeed him. He said that there may be some turmoil now but nothing big is going to happen.

That's what I have at the moment.
