Grant, it's not unusual that young employees in large firms are asked to pull a lot of hours. Most of my law school classmates went to Wall Street or similar firms, and I don't think any of them were doing less than 55 or 60 hours a week. A lot of it has to do with the economics of employing people fresh out of professional schools. To get the best graduates, the firms bid up the price (starting salary is about all most pro school students are thinking about). Then they get these youngsters who are being paid enormous salaries, and in order to make up for it they have to work them incredible hours.
Or it could simply be that they are taking advantage of you, to see how much of a load they can put on you before you call foul.
Either way, remember that God calls us to be "good and faithful servants" to our masters, but on the other hand the word "workaholic" does not appear anywhere in the Bible. Christianity is a practical, common-sense faith and there are often times when God allows us to "draw the line". I wish you the best in finding God's will in this matter.
Me, I work 6 days a week, 52 weeks a year, and some of the holidays. But I'm self employed and that's my own choice.
