Bill,

>>That is what the common man sees. Apple $2499 and Wun Hung Low's corner shops at $1249.00 for a similar system.<<

Well, not exactly the same system,

thessasource.com:80/editorials/nt_editorial.html

but maybe that's what the common man sees. And it'll run a spread sheet and send eMail and Word 5.1. Not sure you even need the hassel of a computer for just this stuff.

But is this really the future of computing? Maybe. Sometimes people get worked up too far about the future of computing. Few predictions of the future come to pass. Most of the Mac nuts I know think this way:

In 20 years I'll have the same ability on my computer that Jimi Hendrix had on the guitar. Instantaneous creation of artistic product. Amazing communication abilities. No need for distribution companies like Warner Bros. or CBS.

Personally I can't see it NOT happening. And it means not only a profound lifestyle change, but huge economic changes and cultural changes. I fully intend to be doing business world wide with my creations. Even if I capture only .000005% of the world market think how much money that is. Its power to the artist instead of the... people who run Hollywood now. Content will reign in this business. Frank Zappa is an example. Didn't sell well at first but his stuff continued to sell until this day.

In every retail business there is an early time with mom and pop corner stores but eventually there comes whats known as the 'shakeout'. Look at video rental stores, has it happened yet? Probably right now it's starting. Volume and real business accounting practices will shake out most but not all the mom and pop stores. Think this will happen with Wintel machines. Razor thin profits.

As for the Mac? More Fords and Chevy's sell than Lexus or BMWs but they are still around.
