I knew someone would mention the great Earl Campbell when I suggested that Ricky Williams was the best EVER runningback for the Longhorns, therefore I give you "The Stats": Williams could get rare rushing-scoring combination titles By Mark Wangrin Austin American-Statesman AUSTIN _ Heading into the season finale at Texas A&M, Texas halfback Ricky Williams is in excellent position to become the 24th player to lead the nation in rushing and scoring. With his 211-yard rushing performance, his sixth 200-yard game of the season and his three catches for 21 yards, Williams also moved into second place in all-purpose yardage (rushing, receiving and kick and punt returns). He would need his best day ever to catch Troy Edwards of Louisiana Tech, who has finished the regular season with a 284-yard lead over Williams. Only 14 players have led the nation in rushing, scoring and all-purpose yards. Earl Campbell is the last Longhorn to lead the nation in rushing and scoring, averaging 158.5 yards and 10.4 points in 1977.
