Ok Steve and other threaders- I printed out post 9748. This gives me all the info to enter the babies into Quicken i.e tells me how many new shares I receive for my TBR shares in each of the babies. Now we have the following issues:

Note: I am going to make some assertions and welcome all comments and corrections

1. The spinoff is a taxable transactions.
So, I should treat it as a sale of TBR, with sale price equal to (closing price on 11/17, reduced by opening price this AM of the TBR residual). This calculation results in a capital gain or loss, based on your original cost basis.

2. The cost basis of the babies is (the closing price on 11/17 reduced by the value of the residual TBR at the opening price on 11/18) If this is the correct cost basis, how do we allocate this to the individual babies? Allocate in proportion to the opening price this AM? This seems like a reasonable basis.

Well,I am open for comments. Am I making this too complicated?

Tony
