Does anyone remember DOS and Windows 3.1 and have an interest
in mysteries?

I've got two old 486 Compaqs from the early 90's. Interestingly, I still
use them almost daily to run my 25 y/o accounting software. I've never
found a better program so I keep using the old one.

I never had any problems though I while I can't find 5 1/4 floppies anymore,
I've still got some stored. Anyway, 3 days ago the computer started doing
strange things at bootup and instead of loading Windows 3.1 I'm getting a screen
that says 162-system options not set-up (run set-up)

resume = F1
set-up = F10

When I go thru set-up and specify drive sizes for a and b drives then exit, the
system does start Windows and runs normally. Now here is the really, really
bizarre part, I've got a second box, exactly the same that I've kept all these years
as a back up and it's been sitting in a closet for over 10 years. Thinking that the first
box was about to give up the ghost, I set-up the second and on boot up, it did exactly
the same thing, even though it hadn't been used for decades. Any idea what's going
on?

I've purchased some new general ledger software to run on Windows 10 just so I can
sleep at night, but I'd sure like to keep using the old reliable software if I can.

Thanks to anyone old enough to remember DOS. :)
