ASSP are STANDARDS based chips, ASICS are CUSTOM chips usually specific to each product.

AMCC has had SIGNIFICANT ASSP DESIGN WINS at cisco.

AMCC is no longer in the ASIC business.

However, cisco is one of several important amcc customers. AMCC business with cisco is not enough reason to buy cisco. You should evaluate AMCC's business trends with other systems (and module) vendors to properly value AMCC's prospects.

I don't think AMCC is a viable takeover candidate, certainly not by a systems vendor.

Frankly, I sincerely doubt Rickey and crew would consider a sale of the company to anyone if they could avoid it. If I were the CEO, i certainly would fight a sale of the company.

There's too much fun ahead.
