Thinking about this driving in, what bothers me about this comment is that it doesn't carry the debate forward, it poisons it.

"They hope people will think they will take on these accounts and after 40 years, they'll have this huge windfall, but that won't happen," said Dean Baker, co-director of the liberal Center for Economic and Policy Research. "I think they're trying to confuse people."

If they were engaging in debate, they'd say that this proposal is bad because people will see that it is not in their best interests and not voluntarily participate.

Saying - They are trying to screw us and they think they can get away with it because they think we are stupid - is debate poison.
