From the Vical website today (2/9/99)... Anticipated Events Initiation of clinical trial for naked DNA HIV vaccine in collaboration with Merck. So you are right on, Merck has dibs on using the Vical naked dna technology for AIDs vaccine. I believe I heard that the African vaccine has live virus & Vical technology does not use that... and since Merck has it licensed for AIDs, I doubt that anyone else can use it for AIDs. Btw, RPR licensed the naked dna technology in Oct/97 for the treatment of Neurodegenerative Diseases. Check out the web site or Investor relations for a wealth of current & historical information...
