re:<<...illuminating some pre-www notions about interactivity, home shopping, distance learning, and so on>> In the current Harvard Business Review there's an article titled "The future of Commerce" hbsp.harvard.edu which has some interesting historical perspectives about the evolution of the customer's role in the economy, the patterns of disruption in retailing, and an interesting dissection of all the parties involved in the clickstream as a user goes from "search to purchase." Those people investing in "clickstream beneficiaries" will find this dissection useful. They make the point about how everyone was expecting internet transactions to eliminate the middle man, when in fact what has happened is there are now zillions of middlemen, each taking a few pennies per click as you progress from search to purchase. In the prior issue there's another interesting article called "Getting Real about Virtual Commerce" dh You can purchase the articles at the above website for $5.50 each and download immediately; sorry I can't post them.
