I have beeen thinking about the Alaska pipeline today:

What if they find huge amounts of it are corroded? They cannot shut it down, it produces a million barrels a day. But it would take years to get the pipe and repair/replace the line.

They just had a huge oil spill from a corroded portion. I always wondered about the way it was wrapped. If water got inbetween the plastic/cover it would sit there and ocntinue to rust it out. We deal with a lot of dry rot up here in Alaska and I have seen many roofs replaced because of this mistake.

And a lot of the pipeline is burried. I worked my way through graduate school laying that pipeling.

This could be a real sleeper issue?
