The Democrats were hoping and expecting help from the Republicans to provide a veto proof majority to reduce the U.S. military role in Iraq. When the republicans withheld their support, those efforts failed. Confronted by this failure they had no choice but to continue providing funds for the war , fearing that otherwise they would be accused of withholding support for our troops. Hobson's choice.
