Unfortunately, the delay of SGI/Alias/Wavefront's next generation entertainment product, Maya is costing them big sales that they're not doing press releases about. It's funny that a release like this is news, a sale in the market they control. At Siggraph (July 96) they said it would ship in the first quarter of 97'. Now some say June, most say December or later. A/W hasen't even updated their website in six months? Disney just bought 100 seats of SoftImage to do their Dinosaur movie. what worries me is that Disney is a priveliged insider on the development of Maya. Then we have Max's forthcoming Nurbs modeler, that is being regarded very seriously in Toronto and Mt. View. this product could bring the price of feature film level software way down. and move a few NT boxes along the way.
