I would guess the world looked totally different to Marx.
Such as limited land, food, resources, lack of progress in anything, like technology.
And of course, the theory itself was written from a a fantasy of his own own mindset, a speculation on peoples future attitudes or abilities to achieve or accomplish various actions.
Our futures are shaped by unforseen events that send us off in certain directions
If Hitler had invaded England at the right time
If our Carriers were in Pearl harbor instead of at sea
If we had not broken the Japanese code before Midway
If JFK had lived.
If Saddam was hit on the first strike ( we dont know yet)
If Einstein had not left Germany in the late 1930's
Consideration should be given to several additional factors in estimating political futures
1. People are about as happy or unhappy as they chose to be, regardless of their social/financial position
2. With invention of the A bomb (atomic energy), limitless power became available, after WW2 it was possible to provide people with all the power they needed for free. The reason it is not free is purely due to politics and control.
With free power we can have all the aluminum, metals, fertilizers, fresh water,- products needed for years.
The A/H bomb also changed the attitudes of world leaders toward any military actions against other Nations leaders and cut off their fantasies about winning wars in previously defined terms.
3. Birth control activities of various means, such as in China, means countries can live within their resources.
( The US population has a negtive growth rate, perhaps excluding immigrants?)
But now the Terrorists have challenged the whole world, by hitting their own kind or birthplace , a mistake that will cost them dearly
