i just read the following about registry backup files being created...
"In the Windows directory there are several hidden files, four of these will be SYSTEM.DAT & USER.DAT, your current registry, and SYSTEM.DA0 & USER.DA0, a backup of your registry. Windows 9x has a nice feature in that every time it appears to start successfully it will copy the registry over these backup files, so just in case something goes wrong can can restore it to a known good state."
...but i believe that it must be just for win95, as i do not see either SYSTEM.DA0 or USER.DA0 on my win98 machine. but here's my question... do the .dat files get created new with each new reboot? i figure that they must, because i am following that backup method that tells me to drag the system.dat and user.dat files into a regback folder prior to tweaking the registry.
btw, those are number zeros in the .DA0 files.
the page from which i copied the above paragraph seems to indicate that it pertains to win95, yet they then reference Windows 9x in the statement, "Windows 9x has a nice feature...etc". as we all know, win9x always refers to both 95 & 98. so there's a question.
