Apple hardware is generally superior to what is used in most Windows machines but you also pay a premium for ownership.
In my experience, Macs also last a lot longer and don't get bogged down or slower the longer you own one. My regular daily computer is a 21.5" Mid-2011 iMac, and I purchased it shortly after release in May of 2011, making it 6-1/2 years old.

It's still as fast today as it was when I bought it. The only upgrade I've made was to take it up to 32GB of RAM. I'm running OS X Yosemite (10.10.5) on it. That's four major releases of OS X later than what it came with, and I could run OS X High Sierra (10.13) on it with no compromise in speed, from what I understand.

Try that with any 6-1/2 year old PC.

By contrast, I installed Windows 7 with Boot Camp on this iMac and it became so unusable over time I deleted the partition. I seldom booted into Windows 7, but when I did it would take hours to download and install updates from Microsoft, which would inevitably fail anyway. What a joke.

I'll simply install it in a virtual machine if I need it in the future.
