My Dad received the highest honors a civilian could receive during the war. He spent the last years of his career working for McDonnell Douglas in their commercial plane division in Long Beach California until he was forced into retirement at the age of 72. He was told that they hated to see him go but it was company policy that you could not work beyond the age of 72.
