Thanks for posting that! I climbed St. Helens a couple of times before it blew and used to enjoy paddling around Spirit Lake. Prior to that, I always viewed the Cascades as being quite enduring. No longer. What is really amazing is the size of some of the sheet lava flows in the USA. Imagine liquid lava covering about 1/4 the USA. That has occurred in the past!
