Tom, this is only a surprise to those who are easily brainwashed, which is to say the vast majority of TV nation.

Some wise sage said a few months ago (I forget who) that when corporate behavior is riddled with fraud, scams, and the fleecing of investors, one should turn their attention to the government, because historically, these actions are condoned partly because the gov't itself is engaging in unscrupulous behavior usually to a much greater degree. So when you look at Enron and some of the others and try to visualize what would the US do that would be comparably egregious, then you get current events.
