netscape has caused an invalid page fault...

over this past weekend i was suddenly getting a ton of these messages. most of them were singling out COMCTL32.DLL. i did some research and learned what i could about the 'common control driver'. but my research wasn't helping me fix things.

i remembered an article that referenced .dll hell, and the infinite conflicts that can occur when there are more than one file with the same name. usually, it is good practice to look for the most current version and rename the others to get them out of the way, but not delete them in case you need to get them back.

i found two COMCTL32.DLL files. both version 5.80. so what did i have to lose? i renamed one COMCTL32.ABC.

i haven't had that IPF error message since.

luck? coincidence? or did i do the right thing? i think the answer may be yes to all of the above.
