The minimums are greater than Win98. No dual processors are not required, but the Professional version (the minimum - non server edition) supports 2 processors.

Software will make use of the feature if its there - it will just work faster if two processors are present. I can foresee that a number of different software classes could benefit, including CAD/CAM, graphics (for filters etc), development tools (compilers etc), games (can easily multitask the graphics engine and the rest of the code), postscript interpreters, and probably almost everything else that is not storage I/O bound.

No Intel will not be the only one to benefit, but it stands to benefit as much as anyone else (and possibly more if dual processor systems become popular).
