Ah, omission is harder to deal with. But sometimes it is sheer ignorance. For example, the mainstream media was taken aback by the growth of political evangelicalism in '80, '84, and '92. There was almost an excuse in '80, although I knew about it, even though not an evangelical, because I got interested in the tv phenomenon, and started occasionally tuning in to Falwell and Robertson, among others. To have almost the same sense of befuddlement, as if they had just assumed it would blow over without monitoring it in the subsequent elections was really over the top!
