Bull,

Just a quick note on stock market return in first year following elections:

1985 Reagan 32.16%
1989 Bush 31.49%
1961 Kennedy 26.89%
1949 Truman 18.79%
1965 Johnson 12.45%
1993 Clinton 9.99%
1952 Eisenhower -.99%
1981 Reagan -4.91%
1977 Carter -7.18%
1969 Nixon -8.50%
1956 Eisenhower -10.78%
1973 Nixon -14.66%

Total average return for stocks:

Pre-election year 17.4%
Election Year 14.3%
Post-election Year 7.1%
Mid-term 8.7%

This isn't a political commentary, I just wanted to point out that the reaction of the markets has been decidedly mixed, and apparently non-partisan despite the conventional wisdom that Wall Street favors Republican candidates. These mixed results indicate that while the markets may claim to have favorites, there is little evidence to suggest that investors should make any portfolio moves based on election results.

just a thought
